Just after Christmas the winter came for us too. Little bit late, we didn’t have white Christmas, but maybe better for caching. In the snow it is real difficult to find boxes here in Crete, where the most common hiding place is under rocks on the field.
We left in the morning for Lassithi plateau what is 50-60km from Heraklion. We put the winter bouts on, had in the bag pack gloves, hats, scarfs and we were ready to survive even in the North Pole. Our target was a new cache from a new Cretan player (fsarakin). This is her first one and I hope she will continue finding and hiding boxes.
On the way we already had snow on the road. We were lucky it wasn’t below zero because our car don’t have winter tires-usually we don’t need them-but we still drove carefully.
After parking we got ready for the challenge in the snow. Half an hour walk and we arrived at the spot where the fantastic old kalliprinos trees are is.
”Off course” we started to look for the micro at the wrong tree but after 10 minutes we moved on to the other old tree.
And there it was! We signed the FTF and Juktas the STF and left. On the way back we made a snowman who became a very happy one.
It was still early so we decided to go to Agios Nikolaos to check another cache of ours and one who we have the maintenance. We were hoping to get some warm sun also.
On the way “off course” we placed a new box. We couldn’t resist for a wonderful site. It is 2 mills and 1 quarry on a hill side.
The weather was as we expected; lovely sun and not too much wind. We had to look the view to Ha cache for about 15 minutes. This is strange because this is ours but somebody moved it 10 meters away, that’s why so many people don’t find it. We took the correct coordinates and changed the logbook. Then we had a short stop at Minos Europe by Jamange; it is on the correct place.
At late afternoon we had a coffee with Wind&Water in Heraklion. Exchanged our holiday’s stories and talked about the future plans.
We had a fabulous day out in the winter.
